Title: Melancholia
Date Completed: 30 may 2001
Software: Photoshop 5.5

Comments: For CART202. I had to weasel my lastest obsession -- Wolerine/Rogue -- into an assignment. The idea was to take Albrecht Durer's Melancholia and relate the message to modern times. On the left you have new technology: cold emotionless tools. On the right you have old technology: personalities reside in each tool, they are more connected to the user. I chose the older male for new-tech to symbolize control and authority - computers are taking over our lives. The young girl symbolizes the freedom of movement and thought old-tech allows. New is mechanical and lifeless; old is more vibrant and full of life.

This is one of the more complicated collages I've done. With the seperate layers of brush strokes for the color effects, there are probably 25-30 layers here. It actually only took 10-12 hours to do, with a bit of tweaking afterwards.
